All India Public Sector Golf Tourament - 2013

* OIL team wins championship trophy, MCL runner-up *

Sambalpur, December 21, 2013: Visiting professionals of Oil India Limited (OIL) won the championship trophy of the All India Public Sector Golf Tournament-2013 beating host team of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in close contest.

With Stableford score of 178 the Team OIL comprising Mr H S Kang, Mr Samarth Dwivedi, Arjun Sharma and Ankur Chadha celebrated victory while MCL golfers with score of 177 took the Runner-up trophy. MCL team included, Mr A K Das, Mr A K Behura, Mr R C Jena and Mr J. Kumar.

Golfers of total 11 government enterprises participated in this prestigious Golf championship, which was hosted by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) on 19th December - 20th December, 2013 at Mahanadi Golf Club course in the western Sambalpur district of Odisha.

In the Directors’ Play, as a part of this tournament, Mr S C Padhy, Director (HR) NALCO took the winner’s trophy while NTPC’s Director (Finance) Mr Kulmani Biswal and Coal India’s Director (P&IR) Mr R Mohandas remained the First and Second runners-up respectively.

In 0 to 14 handicap category, ONGC’s golfer Mr Selva D. won the Best in Gross trophy with 73 points while Mr H. S. Kang of OIL was the runner-up with 76 points. Best Gross trophy in 15-24 handicap golfers was won by Mr A K Behura of MCL took with 91 points while Mr D K Gupta of Coal Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd (CMPDI) was declared second with equal points.

Best net score of 38 was posted by Arjun Sharma of OIL in 0-14 handicap category followed by equal scored Mr A K Das of MCL (38) and Mr K Manoharan of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) (37). Similarly, in 15-24 handicap category Mr P K Chakiyar of MCL took the trophy with best net of 34 while Mr A C Day of MCL scoring 33 and Mr P K Bhowmik of Coal India 33 were declared First and Second runners-up.

Mr. R K Athwal of Air India won the trophy of Best Out Station Golfer with Stableford score of 73 while awards of Best Straightest Drive, Longest Drive and Nearest to Pin were clinged by Mr.Arjun Sharma of OIL, Mr Vikram Rana of ONGC (303 yards) and Mr K Ganesan of NLC (4 feet) respectively.

Lt Col S S Sodhi, was the Observer appointed by All India Public Sector Sports Control Board for the tournament , Mr Sunil Kumar and Capt G S Garcha provided technical support during the tournamen t. .
