Born on 2nd July, 1951, Dr. A.K. Balyan, hailing from a humble farmer family rose to the board level of number one PSU of country and Managing Director level of a leading gas company. Topped the M. Tech course at IIT, Delhi. Ph.D. from Germany on Government of India, Scholarship.
Dr.A.K.Balyan is the former MD & CEO of Petronet –LNG Limited, one of the fastest growing world-class companies in the Indian energy sector. Dr.Balyan has a vision of making Petronet LNG amongst the leaders in the LNG Business in the world and also diversify into related areas of the value chain.
Established world class geochemistry laboratories in ONGC.
Established Coal Bead Methane (CBM) – an unconventional energy source production for the first time in India in Parbatpur Block, Jharia, Bokaro. Gas is now being sold commercially.
Instrumental as Director – in charge for transformation and turnaround of Mangalore Refinery Limited from a sick refinery to a most energy efficient high performance refinery and its expansion and integration into petrochemical complex.
Implemented ONGC’s first very successful 51 Megawatt Wind Power Project. This green energy has replaced fossil fuel based power helping in environment protection.
Driven establishment of Mangalore SEZ and Dahej SEZ as Founder Director from ONGC to create well established industrial hubs.
Driven the biggest petrochemical complex, Opal of ONGC with country’s single biggest cracker project to produce polythelene and polypropylene and other value added Products.
Expanded the operations of Petronet LNG’s in the country, to become the leading corporate in field of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) with more than 100% capacity utilisation. Commissioned 2nd LNG Terminal at Kochi and creating 3rd LNG Terminal on East Coast to have natural gas infrastructure to meet the energy security of country
